# Use canonical command names

Canonical: https://hypaware.ai/docs/cli-reference/use-canonical-command-names

Use the canonical names below in new scripts and documentation. Other spellings
remain compatibility aliases and use the same runners:

| Compatibility spelling | Canonical spelling |
| --- | --- |
| `hyp init` | `hyp setup` |
| `hyp unattach` | `hyp detach` |
| `hyp client history providers` | `hyp backfill list` |
| `hyp skills install` | `hyp client skills install` |
| `hyp policy ...`, `hyp ignore`, `hyp unignore`, `hyp purge` | `hyp privacy ...` |
| `hyp query status`, `hyp query refresh`, `hyp query maintain` | `hyp cache status`, `hyp cache refresh`, `hyp cache maintain` |
| `hyp graph neighbors` | `hyp query graph neighbors` |
| `hyp vector search` | `hyp query vector search` |
| `hyp plugin new`, `hyp plugin doctor` | `hyp dev plugin new`, `hyp dev plugin doctor` |
| `hyp mcp` | `hyp mcp serve` |
| `hyp enrich ...` | `hyp enrichment ...` |

`hyp attach` and `hyp detach` are the preferred short forms of `hyp client attach`
and `hyp client detach`; both spellings run the same command.

Plugin-owned aliases are available only when the owning plugin is active.
